STUDENT OF THE WEEK

Sarah is our Student of the Week. She is a fluent oral reader who loves to discuss the story. Sarah makes predictions about the story and uses her background knowledge to help her understand what she is reading. Congratulations Sarah and keep up the good work.

1W ARE AUTHORS

It was an exciting week in 1W last week as we published our first fiction books. Each child wrote their own stories that had beginning, middle and end. We then edited our work and read it to a friend. Next we had to write a second draft and Melanie typed up our stories into a book format. With all the practise we have been doing on our illustrations after the Cartoonist Incursion we then ilustrated our own books. Mrs. Wynde was really impressed with some of the facial expressions on the characters. Finally we made a front cover for our books and Mrs. Wynde stapled them together. We read our books to Prep C.

They have been running lunchtime classes for skipping, writing and origami. On Monday they came into our class and showed us how to make origami cranes. Then they joined in our maths lesson on Money. On Friday they did a great Cultural Show.

Congratulation to Shyla for being our Student of the Week. Shyla set herself a goal that in the morning she was going to line up with the rest of the grade. Each morning this week Shyla was lined up ready to come in with the grade. So Shyla deserved to be our Student of the Week.

STUDENT OF THE WEEK

This week our student of the week is Jacob. Jacob has read 125 nights and is reading chapter books. He is reading fluently and is remembering to self correct if the text does not make sense. Jacob is also able to retell the story in some detail. Congratulations on a great week, Jacob.

Multiplication

This week we have been doing a lot of work with multiplication. In grade 1 we call it 'groups of'. Mrs Wynde gave us some problems and we had to show the groups with unifix blocks. She then gave us a number and we had to try to make as many different equal groups. We then had to write the sum. That was hard because sometimes we couldn't make equal groups. Today we were allowed to make our own sum. Ashley made 2 groups of 10 and she worked out it equalled 20.
